From Phnom Penh to the Heart of Japan: AISPP Students Embark on a Cultural Exchange
TOKYO, March 4, 2026 — Fifteen students and two faculty members from Australian International School Phnom Penh (AISPP) recently completed a life-changing expedition through Japan. The journey was a masterclass in global citizenship, spanning the historical solemnity of Hiroshima and the high-tech pulse of Tokyo.
The Hiroshima Exchange: Building Bridges
The trip began in Hiroshima, where the AISPP delegation was hosted by Hiroshima Jogakuin School. This segment of the trip focused on:
- Institutional Partnership: Strengthening the bond between two leading international schools to foster future academic collaborations.
- Historical Reflection: Visiting ancient temples and landmarks to understand Japan’s journey from its storied past to its peaceful present.
- Language Immersion: Students practiced Japanese conversational skills in real-world settings, from traditional markets to student-led discussions.
Tokyo: Navigating a Global Megacity
From Hiroshima, the group traveled to Tokyo to experience the “neon-lit” energy of one of the world’s most dynamic urban centers. The Tokyo experience challenged students to adapt to:
- Technological Innovation: Observing Japan’s world-leading infrastructure and digital integration.
- Cultural Contrast: Navigating the intersection of hyper-modern skyscrapers and preserved cultural traditions.
- Global Awareness: Developing the independence needed to travel and thrive in a major international hub.
Why International Trips Matter
From our perspective at Schools Cambodia, these journeys are essential for “IB (International Baccalaureate) Learners.” They promote:
- Open-Mindedness: Experiencing Japanese culture firsthand helps dismantle stereotypes and builds empathy.
- Risk-Taking: Navigating a new country and language builds self-confidence that translates directly into classroom success.
- Global Networking: These students are now part of a global community of scholars, with friends stretching from Cambodia to Japan.
We congratulate the AISPP “Global Explorers” for their successful journey. If you are looking for a school that views the entire world as a classroom, AISPP is currently welcoming new families for the 2025-2026 academic year.
