Empowering the Next Generation: BELTEI Hosts “Role of Youth in Society” Seminar for 3,500+ Students
PHNOM PENH, March 3, 2026 — In a massive display of academic scale and civic engagement, BELTEI International School conducted its annual General Knowledge Enhancement Program for Grade 11 and English Level 11 students. The event featured H.E. Sroy Sochet, Director General of the Youth Department at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS), as the keynote speaker.
This program is the second of BELTEI’s 12 Major Additional Curricula, designed to supplement the national curriculum with life skills and social awareness.
Scaling Education through Technology
The seminar showcased BELTEI’s “hybrid” educational infrastructure, allowing thousands of students across 32 branches to participate simultaneously:
- Direct Participation: 417 students gathered at the BELTEI International School 9 (Steung Meanchey Branch) for an in-person experience.
- Digital Outreach: 3,097 students joined via ZOOM Workplace and Telegram Live Stream, ensuring that every Grade 11 student in the BELTEI network received the same high-level mentorship.
Defining the “Role of Youth”
H.E. Sroy Sochet’s address focused on transitioning students from “learners” to “contributors.” Key themes included:
- Civic Duty: Understanding the rights and responsibilities of Cambodian citizens.
- Market Readiness: Developing the “soft skills” and comprehensive knowledge needed to compete in a globalized job market.
- Social Contribution: Encouraging youth to use their education to solve community challenges and drive national growth.
The BELTEI “12-Pillar” Curriculum
From our perspective at Schools Cambodia, BELTEI’s success lies in its structured approach to “Extra-Curricular Excellence.” The General Knowledge Enhancement Program is part of a broader 12-pillar system that includes:
- Digital Literacy: Electronic Learning (BELTEI IS App).
- Intellectual Competitions: Debate, Public Speaking, Math, and Essay programs.
- Modern Science: STEAM and Robotics Education.
- Civic Awareness: Targeted training for every grade level, from drug awareness in Grade 7 to Social Security (NSSF) orientation in Grade 12.
We congratulate the BELTEI leadership and the 3,514 participating students. By reflecting on their “Role in Society” today, these Grade 11 students are taking their first steps toward becoming the responsible leaders Cambodia needs for tomorrow.
