Tech at the Core: DMU Computing Students Explore IT in Banking at Campu Bank
PHNOM PENH, February 25, 2026 — Computing students from De Montfort University (DMU) Cambodia recently traded their coding labs for the high-security environment of Cambodian Public Bank Plc. (Campu Bank). This industry visit was designed to show future IT professionals how the theories of computer science are applied to manage billions of dollars in digital transactions.
The Digital Backbone of Finance
During the visit, students gained “behind-the-screens” insights into the technological infrastructure required to run a major commercial bank. Key areas of focus included:
- FinTech & Core Banking Systems: How specialized software handles real-time processing of deposits, withdrawals, and international transfers.
- Cybersecurity & Data Protection: Understanding the layers of encryption and security protocols used to protect sensitive financial data from digital threats.
- Network Infrastructure: Observing the hardware and servers that ensure banking services remain available to customers 24/7.
Why This Matters for IT Students
From our perspective at Schools Cambodia, seeing “IT in action” is essential for career preparation. This visit helped students understand:
- Professional Standards: The extreme precision and reliability required when writing code for financial institutions.
- Career Pathways: Discovering diverse roles within banking, such as Systems Analysts, Security Engineers, and Database Managers.
- Real-World Problem Solving: Seeing how technology solves everyday banking challenges, from mobile app performance to fraud detection.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Campu Bank for their warm welcome and for providing our computing students with a practical look at the future of the digital economy.
