The landscape of international education in Phnom Penh is about to get a major upgrade. Recently, the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC)—the powerhouse behind some of Cambodia’s most iconic developments—officially broke ground on its latest venture: Norea International School (NIS).
Located within the ambitious $2.5 billion Norea City satellite development, this new institution is set to become a cornerstone of the community, blending world-class academic standards with a deep respect for Cambodian identity.
A Dual-Path Curriculum for Global Citizens
One of the standout features of Norea International School is its dual educational approach. Recognizing that modern families want the best of both worlds, the school will offer:
- British International Program: Following a globally recognized curriculum that prepares students for international success.
- Khmer National Track: An optional track allowing students to study the national curriculum and sit for the Cambodian National Exams.
This hybrid model ensures that students can compete on a global stage without losing their linguistic and cultural roots—a growing priority for parents in the Kingdom.
A Campus Built for Holistic Growth
Spanning 2 hectares along the riverside of Norea City, the campus is designed to be more than just classrooms. Scheduled to fully open in 2027, the facility will emphasize “holistic development,” featuring:
- Extensive Sports Facilities: Dedicated spaces for physical education and competitive sports.
- Arts & Culture Hubs: Specialized areas for music, theater, and the visual arts.
- Secure Riverside Environment: A campus layout that takes advantage of the fresh air and green spaces of Norea City, providing a serene environment for learning.
Phased Opening: August 2026
Parents won’t have to wait until 2027 to enroll. To meet immediate demand, NIS will launch in two phases:
- Phase 1 (August 2026): The school will begin welcoming students from Grade 1 to Grade 5 at a temporary location in the Élysée district of Koh Pich.
- Phase 2 (2027): The school will transition to its permanent, state-of-the-art campus in Norea City.
Backed by Educational Excellence
Norea International School isn’t OCIC’s first foray into education. The group has a proven track record, managing a portfolio that includes the Canadian International School of Phnom Penh (CIS), the French International School (EFI), and CamTech University.
Led by Director Ms. Shailani Borges, who brings over 20 years of experience in the Cambodian education sector, NIS aims to foster an inclusive environment where “every child can thrive, innovate, and succeed.”
Why This Matters for Norea City
The launch of NIS is a significant milestone for Norea City. As the district transforms into a hub for luxury residences and commercial centers, the addition of a high-tier international school makes it a “live-work-play” destination for families. With the new bridges connecting Koh Pich and National Road 1, accessibility to this new educational hub is easier than ever.
