UHS and Cambodia Red Cross Support Maternal Health in Kampong Speu
KAMPONG SPEU, February 21, 2026 — On the occasion of the National Day of Maternal, Infant, and Child Health, a dedicated team from the University of Health Sciences (UHS) joined forces with the Cambodia Red Cross (CRC) to provide vital health checks for pregnant women. The activity took place at the Oral Health Center in Oral District, bringing specialized medical expertise directly to the community.
A Multi-Disciplinary Medical Team
The mission was led by Assistant Professor Eing Rothmony, Deputy of UHS, representing H.E. Professor Sapun Vadanak, Advisor to the Ministry of Health. The team consisted of 15 leading teachers and a diverse group of specialized students:
- Obstetrics and Gynecology Students
- Medical Imaging Students
- University of Healthcare and Nursing Students
- Cambodia Red Cross Youth Club Members
The program was overseen by H.E. Dr. Men Neary Sopheak, Permanent Vice-Chairman of the Youth Activities Support Team at the CRC Headquarters.
Comprehensive Prenatal Services
During the event, the team successfully provided health checkups and consultations to 54 pregnant women. The services were divided into three core areas:
1. Basic Midwifery & Nutritional Care
- Physical Monitoring: Measuring maternal height, weight, and blood pressure.
- Fetal Assessment: Measuring uterine height, listening to the fetal heart rate, and observing fetal movement.
- Lifestyle Advice: Providing critical guidance on nutrition and personal hygiene.
2. Medical Imaging (Ultrasound) Services
- Utilizing specialized imaging to identify key developmental milestones and ensure fetal health.
3. Specialized Consultations & Medication
- Expert Review: Post-screening consultations based on midwifery and imaging results.
- Medical Support: Provision of suitable medicines to mothers as prescribed by the Obstetrics and Gynecology team.
A Decade of Community Impact
This mission marks a continued tradition of service for the UHS Cambodia Red Cross Youth Club. Since 2015, the club has participated in 10 major health checkup missions, reaching a total of 593 pregnant women across Kandal, Prey Veng, and Kampong Speu provinces.
By participating in these events, UHS students not only provide essential care but also gain invaluable field experience, preparing them to become the next generation of compassionate healthcare leaders in Cambodia.
