Digital STEM Revolution: MoEYS and Confluences Launch “Edumalin” for Grade 9 Mathematics
PHNOM PENH, February 24, 2026 — In a major step toward modernizing Cambodia’s digital education ecosystem, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, met with delegates from Confluences to discuss the rollout of the Edumalin project.
Led by Mr. Soreasmey KE BIN, CEO of Confluences, and Mr. Francois Baritiu (via online platform), the delegation presented a specialized plan to enhance STEM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) across Cambodia.
What is Edumalin?
Edumalin is more than just a website; it is a comprehensive PaaS (Platform as a Service) designed to revolutionize K-12 education. The project specifically targets Grade 9 students with:
- Localized Content: International-standard math and science lessons translated into the Khmer language.
- Teacher Assistants: Digital tools that provide teachers with evidence-based teaching models and modern pedagogical methods.
- Trial Phase: A 6-to-8-month action plan starting with target schools in both the capital and the provinces.
Aligning with Cambodia’s Vision
H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron expressed strong support for the initiative, noting that it aligns perfectly with the Ministry’s core strategies to improve PISA results (the international indicator of education quality). The Ministry’s vision focuses on:
- Inquiry-Based Learning: Shifting from memorization to practical, problem-solving science and math.
- New Generation Schools (NGS): Expanding schools with state-of-the-art labs, ICT rooms, and digital libraries.
- Closing the Gender Gap: Actively motivating girls to enter STEM fields.
- Project-Based Learning: Increasing study hours dedicated to hands-on STEM projects.
From our perspective at Schools Cambodia, the introduction of Edumalin marks a shift toward a more resilient and tech-savvy education system, where technology serves as a bridge between traditional teaching and 21st-century innovation.
