Mekong Cup 2026: LFRD Hosts Inaugural Multi-Sport Tournament for Southeast Asia
PHNOM PENH, February 19, 2026 — From February 13 to 19, the campus of Lycée Français René Descartes (LFRD) was transformed into a regional sports arena. The school proudly hosted the very first edition of the Cycle 3 Mekong Cup, an ambitious athletic exchange involving CM2 and 6e students from five prestigious AEFE (Agency for French Education Abroad) schools across Southeast Asia.
A Week of Diverse Athleticism
The tournament was designed to test more than just speed and strength; it challenged students’ strategic thinking and artistic expression. The week’s itinerary included:
- Team Dynamics: High-energy matches of Ultimate Frisbee, Dodgeball, and aquatic challenges.
- Technical Skills: Precision-based events like Orienteering and Climbing.
- Creativity: Artistic performances that allowed students to showcase their talents beyond the sports field.
Beyond the Scoreboard: A Human Adventure
While the competitive spirit was high, the core mission of the Mekong Cup was to foster a “human adventure” rooted in the AEFE values of:
- Teamwork: Bridging the gap between primary (CM2) and secondary (6e) students to build school spirit.
- Commitment: Encouraging personal bests and perseverance throughout a physically demanding week.
- Respect: Building friendships and mutual understanding between international delegations from across the region.
This collective success was made possible by the dedicated staff members and organizers at LFRD, who provided a seamless platform for young athletes to excel. The Mekong Cup has officially arrived, promising to be a highlight of the Southeast Asian academic calendar for years to come.
