Kindness in Action: Invictus Nursery Learners Explore Veterinary Care
PHNOM PENH, February 25, 2026 — Curiosity and compassion took center stage recently as the Nursery learners from Invictus International School Phnom Penh embarked on a heartwarming educational trip to VSL Veterinary Clinic. For these young learners, the visit was an introduction to the world of animal welfare and the vital role veterinarians play in our society.
Lessons in Empathy and Science
While the trip was full of “paws-itive” interactions, the core focus was on foundational life skills and early science concepts:
- The Role of a Vet: Understanding that veterinarians are like “animal doctors” who use special tools to help pets feel better.
- Responsible Pet Ownership: Learning about the “Five Provisions” of animal welfare—hygiene, proper nutrition, a safe home, regular check-ups, and love.
- Hygiene and Safety: Observing how keeping a pet clean is essential for both the animal’s health and the family’s well-being.
Why Field Trips Matter for Nursery Students
From our perspective at Schools Cambodia, hands-on experiences like this are crucial for early childhood development. When a child sees a vet in action, it:
- Develops Empathy: They begin to understand that animals have feelings and needs similar to their own.
- Reduces Fear: Familiarity with clinical settings (even for animals) can help children feel more comfortable with their own doctor visits.
- Encourages Vocabulary: Introducing new words like “veterinarian,” “stethoscope,” and “hygiene” in a real-world context.
