Beyond Typing: MoEYS and Tech for Kids Academy Launch Computational Thinking Training
PHNOM PENH, February 24, 2026 — A significant step toward modernizing Cambodia’s classrooms took place at Chea Sim Chroi Changvar High School this week. The Department of Digital Development, in partnership with Tech for Kids Academy and supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, concluded a specialized two-day technical training for 52 education professionals.
The training focused on the “Implementation of Computational Thinking Education,” a program designed to replace traditional, repetitive computer tasks with high-level logic and coding skills.
A New Standard: CoolThink@JC
The training adopted the CoolThink@JC software standards, a world-class framework for digital education. Teachers and board members were trained in:
- Standard-Level Coding: Moving students from passive screen use to active programming.
- Problem-Solving Methodologies: Teaching students how to deconstruct complex problems into smaller, manageable parts.
- Creative Innovation: Encouraging students to use technology as a tool for original creation and everyday problem-solving.
Shifting the Educational Paradigm
Mr. Sok Tha, Head of the Digital Development Department, emphasized that this is a fundamental shift in how technology is taught in Cambodia. “It’s not only about learning coding,” he stated. “It’s about changing from traditional computer subjects focused on typing to education that develops thinking skills and creativity.”
This initiative aligns with several national strategies, including:
- Cambodia Digital Economic and Social Policy Framework 2021-2035.
- Education Strategic Plan 2024-2028.
- The Pentagonal Strategy Phase 1: Supporting the key priorities of People, Roads, Water, Electricity, and Technology.
Preparing for Vision 2050
By training “Trainers of Trainers” (TOT), the Ministry is building a sustainable model for digital education. This program ensures that students develop the 21st-century skills necessary for Cambodia to remain competitive and resilient as it moves toward its 2050 economic goals.
