Strengthening Ties: MoEYS Concludes Training for New Chinese Language Educators
PHNOM PENH, March 2, 2026 — In a significant step toward expanding Cambodia’s secondary school curriculum, the National Institute of Education (NIE) hosted the closing ceremony for the training course on “Teaching Skills and Teacher Profession for Chinese Language Education.” Presided over by H.E. Put Samet, Deputy Secretary of MoEYS, the ceremony marked the completion of an intensive week-long program (February 26 – March 2) designed to prepare 20 newly recruited contract officers for their roles in target schools for the 2025-2026 academic year.
A Strategic Partnership in Education
This training is the result of a robust Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Cambodia and the People’s Republic of China. Key partners in this initiative include:
- The Center for Cooperation and Exchange of Chinese as a Foreign Language (CLEC).
- East China Normal University (ECNU), which provided academic expertise and pedagogical support.
The program focuses on transforming native or fluent speakers into professional educators who can navigate the complexities of a Cambodian classroom while delivering high-standard Chinese language instruction.
The Five Pillars of Teaching Excellence
During his address, H.E. Put Samet outlined a professional code of conduct for the new teachers, emphasizing that the “destiny of the student” lies in the teacher’s hands:
- Institutional Discipline: Total respect for school regulations, including punctuality, professional dress, and administrative duties.
- Internal Unity: Fostering a spirit of cooperation with school leadership and existing faculty to create a harmonious learning environment.
- Diligent Classroom Management: Ensuring that teachers are not just present, but actively engaging students and managing the classroom with responsibility.
- Professional Resilience: Maintaining patience and persistence through the challenges of teaching, with an open line of communication to the Ministry for support.
- Ethical Role Modeling: Upholding the dignity of the profession by being an exemplary figure both inside and outside the school gates.
“A good teacher is one whom the students love to learn from, and who loves their students in return.” — H.E. Put Samet
