Humanitarian Excellence: 550 UHS Students Complete Red Cross Youth Training
PHNOM PENH, February 27, 2026 — The University of Health Sciences (UHS), in a powerful collaboration with the Cambodia Red Cross Headquarters, has successfully concluded the second “Red Cross Youth Basic Training Course” of 2026. Over two intensive days, 550 students from the College of Dentistry and the Technical School of Medical Care transitioned from students to official members of the Cambodian Red Cross Youth Club.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Assistant Professor Eang Rothmony, Vice Chancellor of UHS, and H.E. Reut Sokhon from the CRC Headquarters, marking a renewed commitment to the university’s long-standing humanitarian legacy.
The Four Pillars of the Red Cross Youth
The 9-hour training curriculum, delivered by expert speakers from the CRC, equipped students with four essential professional and civic capabilities:
- First Aid Mastery: Gaining the practical science and hands-on skills required to provide life-saving assistance in emergency situations.
- Humanitarian History: Understanding the achievements of the Cambodian Red Cross and the global history of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
- Road Safety Advocacy: Training to become active promoters of traffic safety to reduce accidents within the community.
- Club Management & Leadership: Learning the organizational structure, roles, and responsibilities of a CRC Youth member to lead future social and charity initiatives.
A Legacy of Social Impact
From our perspective at Schools Cambodia, the UHS Red Cross Youth Club is a model for student engagement. Established in 2010, the club organizes over 100 activities annually, ranging from cultural events to large-scale charity missions.
The benefits for UHS students include:
- Enhanced Soft Skills: Developing leadership, teamwork, and communication through community service.
- Direct Social Contribution: Applying medical knowledge to benefit Cambodian society immediately, rather than waiting until graduation.
- Professional Networking: Building ties with the national headquarters of the Red Cross, the country’s leading humanitarian organization.
We congratulate these 550 new members for stepping up to serve. At the University of Health Sciences, “Health” clearly extends beyond the hospital walls and into the heart of the community.
