Art as Connection: Early Years Creativity at Reigate Grammar School Phnom Penh
In the Early Years program at RGSPP, art is far more than just a classroom activity; it is a vital tool for developing self-expression and motor skills. Recently, students engaged in two major creative initiatives that highlight the school’s commitment to holistic development.
Identity and Belonging: House Puppets
During the school’s House Sort event, students participated in a personalized crafting project:
- Creative Expression: Children crafted their own unique house puppets, allowing them to express their individual personalities.
- Building Confidence: This activity helped students develop a sense of identity and pride within their newly assigned school Houses.
Sustainability and Teamwork: “Under the Sea”
The Early Years students also joined forces with the Primary department for a collaborative “Under the Sea” art project:
- Recycled Materials: Students learned the value of sustainability by using repurposed materials to build their ocean-themed masterpieces.
- Sensory Exploration: The project allowed children to experiment with different textures and colors, enhancing their sensory perception.
- Collaborative Spirit: Working across different age groups taught the younger students the importance of teamwork and community connection.
By blending individual creativity with collaborative efforts, RGSPP ensures that art remains a powerful medium for learning and connecting.
