PHNOM PENH, February 14, 2026 — The spirit of the Lunar New Year took over the Reigate Grammar School Phnom Penh (RGSPP) campus yesterday, as the school hosted a massive community celebration. With over 100 families in attendance, the event transformed the school into a vibrant festival of tradition, color, and community spirit.
As a school that prides itself on fostering global perspectives, RGSPP utilized the celebration to move beyond the classroom, giving students a sensory and “hands-on” experience of one of Asia’s most significant cultural holidays.
A Festival for the Senses
The highlight of the afternoon was a high-energy Lion and Dragon dance, which wove through the campus to the sound of traditional drums, symbolizing luck and prosperity for the school year ahead. Students and parents were also treated to a curated selection of traditional activities:
- Artistic Traditions: Families engaged in Lantern Painting and Red Pocket Printing, allowing students to explore the symbolism of the color red and the artistry of traditional decorations.
- Ancient Literacy: Traditional Chinese Calligraphy stations offered a meditative look at the beauty of the written word, teaching patience and precision.
- Community Games: The “Lucky Roll Challenge” and a “Red Pocket Lucky Draw” added an element of festive excitement, bringing families together in friendly competition.
Why Cultural Celebrations Matter in Education
At Schools Cambodia, we recognize that events like these are vital for “Global Citizenship.” RGSPP emphasizes that by experiencing these traditions firsthand, students learn:
- Empathy: Gaining a deeper understanding of the traditions of their peers.
- Respect: Learning the history and values behind different cultural symbols.
- Community Bonding: Strengthening the ties between the school and the diverse international families living in Phnom Penh.
“We prioritize celebrating cultural diversity,” the school shared. “Our students learn to embrace the differences that make our community so vibrant.”
