Leadership in Action: RGS PP Students Spearhead 2026 Charity Initiatives
PHNOM PENH, February 25, 2026 — The classrooms at Reigate Grammar School Phnom Penh (RGS PP) have been transformed into hubs of social research and democratic debate this month. The school’s 2026 Charity Project has officially launched, but with a unique twist: the students, not the staff, are in total control of where the funds go.
The Democratic Philanthropy Process
RGS PP has designed a multi-stage framework that mirrors real-world civic engagement and project management.
- Phase 1: Research & Discovery: Primary pupils investigate various local and global causes, analyzing needs and potential impact.
- Phase 2: The Pitch: Students present their findings to their classmates, using data and storytelling to advocate for their chosen cause.
- Phase 3: The Class Vote: Using a democratic voting system, each class selects one finalist to move forward.
- Phase 4: The Grand Finale: Finalists present to the entire school body for a final, school-wide vote to determine the official 2026 charity partner.
Beyond Fundraising: Building 21st-Century Skills
From our perspective at Schools Cambodia, this project is a masterclass in “Service Learning.” By leading these efforts, pupils develop:
- Critical Thinking: Evaluating which causes have the most urgent needs.
- Public Speaking: Gaining confidence by pitching ideas to peers and seniors.
- Civic Responsibility: Understanding the importance of the democratic process and collective action.
- Empathy: Connecting with the challenges faced by others, both within Cambodia and globally.
By grounding charity work in genuine student passion, RGS PP ensures that fundraising isn’t just a school task—it’s a mission driven by the heart of the student body.
