Kandal Province Hosts 2025-2026 Primary School Provincial Sports Championship
TA KHMOU, February 28, 2026 — The Kandal Provincial Stadium was filled with the spirit of competition this week as the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) conducted its annual search for the best primary school athletes in the province. From February 21 to 27, the stadium became a hub for youth talent, featuring 526 athletes across five major sporting categories.
The tournament is a key part of the national strategy to promote physical education and identify young talent early in their academic journey.
The Competition by the Numbers
With 48 teams competing, the diversity of sports offered provided a platform for every type of athlete. The participation of 223 female athletes highlights the growing inclusivity of sports programs in Kandal’s primary schools.

More Than Just a Trophy
From our perspective at Schools Cambodia, these provincial championships serve four vital functions for primary school development:
- Health & Fitness: Encouraging children to stay active during their most formative growth years.
- Unity & Teamwork: Students from different districts interact, building a sense of provincial solidarity.
- Skill Development: Providing a formal environment where students can test their technical abilities in sports like Basketball and Petanque.
- Mental Resilience: Learning how to handle the pressure of a “Championship” setting, which translates into better focus in the classroom.
We congratulate all the participants and the newly crowned provincial champions. Your energy and sportsmanship are an inspiration to students across Kandal!
