Breaking Barriers: British Council Opens 2026-27 Women in STEM Scholarships
The gender gap in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) remains a global challenge. Despite being statistically 8% more productive on average, women continue to be underrepresented in research, leadership, and high-level STEM roles.
To address this, the British Council, in partnership with the UK Mission to ASEAN, has officially opened applications for the 2026-27 Women in STEM Scholarship program. This initiative specifically targets women from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, offering a fully-funded journey to a Master’s degree in the United Kingdom.+1
A Gateway to World-Leading Excellence
The UK is currently ranked second in the world for science and research, and this scholarship provides a rare key to its most prestigious laboratories and lecture halls. Now in its sixth year, the program has already empowered approximately 500 scholars globally.
What the Scholarship Provides:
- Full Financial Support: Each scholarship is valued at a minimum of £40,000, covering tuition, stipends, visas, and health insurance.
- Top-Tier Universities: For the 2026-27 cycle, ASEAN applicants can study at renowned institutions including Cranfield University and Stirling University.
- Global Networking: Scholars gain immediate access to a prestigious alumni network and world-leading research experts.
Celebrating 5 Years of ASEAN-UK Partnership
2026 marks the 5th anniversary of the UK’s status as an ASEAN Dialogue Partner. To celebrate this milestone, the program is offering 20 specific scholarships for Southeast Asia and Hong Kong. Aspiring female scientists from all 11 ASEAN Member States—including Cambodia—are encouraged to apply for selected courses that drive innovation in their home regions.
How to Apply: Applications are now open for the 2026-27 academic year. Interested candidates must apply directly to their chosen university through the British Council Portal.
