At the Canadian International School of Phnom Penh (CIS), we believe that cultural celebrations are more than just events—they are opportunities for our students to grow into truly Global Citizens. This year, our Koh Pich Campus transformed into a sea of red and gold as we gathered to welcome the Lunar New Year with tradition, laughter, and community spirit.
A Fusion of Culture and Community
The Lunar New Year is a time for family, and it was heartening to see our students and parents come together to share in the festivities. From the youngest learners in Nursery to our senior students, everyone participated in activities designed to honor the heritage of the region.
The highlights of the day included:
- Traditional Games: Students engaged in festive games that challenged their skills and taught them about the customs associated with the New Year.
- The Dragon Dance: The rhythmic beat of the drums and the high-energy performance of the dragon dance brought the campus to life, symbolizing luck, strength, and a prosperous year ahead.
- Shared Moments: The event provided a beautiful space for parents and teachers to connect, reinforcing the strong bond that makes the CIS community so unique.
Learning Through Tradition
By integrating these celebrations into school life, CIS provides students with a firsthand look at the diverse cultures that make up our international family. Whether it’s through the arts, music, or traditional dance, these experiences help our students “Make Their Mark” by fostering a deep respect for global traditions.
As we move forward into the new year, we carry with us the joy and unity felt during this special occasion. We are proud to be a school where every culture is celebrated and every student feels a sense of belonging.
