Creative Evolution: Grade 3 Students Pitch Creature Designs to Grade 6 at Northbridge
PHNOM PENH, February 26, 2026 — The Northbridge International School Cambodia (NISC) campus became a hub of biological innovation this week as Grade 3 students unveiled their “Self-Designed Creatures.” In a unique cross-grade learning session, these young scientists presented their meticulous research to an audience of Grade 6 students and faculty, turning a classroom assignment into a professional-style symposium.
From Imagination to Ecosystem
The project required students to synthesize complex scientific concepts into a single, creative output. Each presentation covered:
- Adaptive Biology: Designing innovative physical features that would allow their creature to survive in specific environments.
- Sanctuary Planning: Creating a detailed habitat or “sanctuary” that provides for the creature’s food, shelter, and climate needs.
- Intelligent Research: Demonstrating an understanding of real-world food chains and ecosystem balances to justify their creature’s existence.
The Power of the “Senior Audience”
From our perspective at Schools Cambodia, the most impressive part of this initiative was the peer-to-peer mentoring. Presenting to Grade 6 students provided several key educational benefits:
- Confidence Building: Standing before older students requires a high level of courage and clear communication.
- Defensive Thinking: Grade 3 students had to answer spontaneous questions from their “seniors,” forcing them to think on their feet and explain their logic.
- Communication Clarity: To teach someone else about their creature, the younger students had to simplify complex ideas without losing the scientific core of their work.
This “spotlight” moment at NISC highlights the school’s commitment to the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), where student agency and inquiry-led learning take center stage.
