Our Home, A Kingdom: Year 5 Students Explore Cambodia’s Economy
As part of their immersive unit titled “Our Home, a Kingdom,” Year 5 students from Asian Hope International School recently embarked on a multi-stop field trip across Phnom Penh. This journey was designed to help students trace the evolution of Cambodia’s economy from its historical roots to its current business climate.
From Historical Currency to Modern Business
The educational excursion provided students with two distinct perspectives on how the Kingdom thrives:
- The Sosoro Museum: Students delved into Cambodia’s history and economy at the Preah Srey Içanavarman Museum (Sosoro Museum). Here, they explored the complex story of Cambodian currency and the financial systems that have shaped the nation over centuries.
- The Factory Phnom Penh: Moving into the modern era, the students visited The Factory, where they gained a firsthand look at diverse business types. This provided a tangible understanding of how entrepreneurship and industry function in today’s local economy.
Reflection Through Play
The day concluded at FLY Factory, where the focus shifted toward physical activity and team building. This high-energy environment allowed students to:
- Collaborate: Working together in a non-academic setting to strengthen peer relationships.
- Reflect: Processing the day’s lessons on history and economics through group discussion and active play.
- Innovate: Encouraging the “creative thinker” mindset that is a core value of the Asian Hope curriculum.
