Skills for the Future: MoEYS Launches “Work-Linked Curriculum” Workshop in Kampong Chhnang
KAMPONG CHHNANG, February 18, 2026 — Education leaders and vocational experts have gathered at the resource building of Preah Suramrit High School for a pivotal seminar: the “Consultation Workshop on the Work-Linked Curriculum Framework for Technical Education in Secondary School.”
Presided over by H.E. Dr. Kolpheng Vaddhana, Deputy Secretary of MoEYS, the workshop brings together 40 key stakeholders, including directors from the Kampong Chu Teal Institute of Technology, Kampong Speu Institute of Technology, and several national universities, alongside the boards of 21 General Knowledge and Technical High Schools.
Shaping the “Work Based Learning” (WBL) Model
The seminar focuses on the Work Based Learning (WBL) framework—a strategy designed to integrate practical, real-world work experience directly into the high school curriculum. The primary objectives of the three-day session include:
- Progress Review (2024-2025): Analyzing the success of current study tours, theoretical execution, and student job exhibitions.
- Problem Solving: Identifying specific strengths and weaknesses across different academic institutions to find unified solutions for technical training.
- Curriculum Innovation: Gathering expert input to refine a curriculum that balances academic knowledge with the technical skills needed for Cambodia’s 2030 economic vision.
Why Technical Education Matters Now
As Cambodia transitions toward a knowledge-based economy, MoEYS is pushing for a “new context” in education where students aren’t just learning from textbooks. The commitment shown by the Department of Vocational Orientation aims to:
- Strengthen Leadership: Empowering school boards to manage technical pathways more effectively.
- Enhance Capacity: Building the “human resource” potential of Cambodia’s youth through specialized vocational tracks.
- Ensure Employability: Making sure that a high school graduate is as ready for a workplace as they are for a university.
This workshop is a clear signal that the future of Cambodian secondary education is increasingly technical, practical, and professionally oriented.
